Shuichangliu Fm
Type Locality and Naming
Xueshan range, north Taiwan. The naming section is located at Shuichangliu Village, Guoxing Township, Nantou County, Taiwan. Named the “Shuichangliu bed” in 1935.
Lithology and Thickness
It is composed of monotonous dark gray and black shale, sometimes intercalated with thin beds of gray fine sandstone, often containing glauconite or pyrite. Shale is usually cut by quartz veins or calcite veins and is locally intercalated with lenticular or irregular basaltic pyroclastic rocks and minor basalt. Because of the monotonous lithology, it is not easy to subdivide this formation, and as folding causes repetition of the strata, the sequence of strata is difficult to determine. Its thickness is estimated at >1500 m.
